A product of this new stoner/hipster demographic,  Curren$y is an artist worth his “weight.”  He represents a return to the fun-loving, pot-influenced rap aesthetic made popular by artists like The Alkoholiks, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and the Luniz.  Those artists are from the West Coast and Curren$y hails from New Orleans, but the weed baked raps and references to kush, women, and partying give you the same vibe.  Carrying the slogan “J.E.T. Life (Just Enjoy This), Curren$y and regular collaborators like Wiz Khalifa and Smoke DZA all live for the opportunity to “wake and bake,” while making some good music along the way.  Having a host of mixtapes and one major LP release, Pilot Talk, the kid isn’t a new jack.  Aligned in the past with both N.O. rap outlets No Limit and Cash Money, Curren$y is now backed by former Roc-a-Fella CEO Damon Dash, at his new boutique label, DD172.

Check out his new video “Michael Knight” AND below that, a trailer for Pilot Talk 2, out November 22.
