Kanye West & Jay-Z – “H.A.M.” (prod. Lex Luger)

I’m posting this a few days late because actually…… I JUST listened to it.  When it came out a few days ago, the Internet’s reaction amounted to a collective, “Meh.”

My question is, who are we to turn our noses up at a collaboration between Mr. Iceberg Slim himself and Martin Louis the King, Jr.????

I don’t think it’s a bad song, but definitely, far from their best spittage.  Blame the Lex Luger production for making “H.A.M.” sound like so many of his other joints we’ve grown accustomed to (“B.M.F.,” “MC Hammer,” “Hard in the Paint”).   Jay and ‘Ye should have had more savvy than to allow themselves to sound average.

Kanye still has a long career ahead of him, but as far as Jay is concerned, when listeners start taking your greatness for granted, maybe it’s time to bow out.
